Marine Collagen Powder

Waitaki Biosciences' marine collagen powder is a proprietary blend of ingredients selected from marine species sourced from New Zealand's pristine coastal waters.

The raw materials used are a by-product of the fishing industry, caught as part of a  sustainable quota management system. No raw materials are sourced from rare or endangered species.

Marine Collagen is designed for use as an oral supplement to support skin, nail and hair health and contains the amino acid hydroxyproline, a critical building block for collagen synthesis.

Research has been able to quantify, using VAS (Visual Analogue Scales) and 3-D microtopography that the oral use of marine collagen based formulations can reduce the effects of photoaging that leads to blemishes, loss of elasticity, fine lines and wrinkles.

In a study by  Eskelinin (1992),  a 90 day treatment period with a marine protein based formulation increased epidermal thickness from 0.11mm to 0.29mm and dermal thickness from 0.74 to 1.39mm, skin elasticity indices increased from 44% to 73%.

Thom ( 2005), also reported a significant improvement in skin quality in both objective and subjective parameters compared to placebo after 2, 4 and 6 months treatment with a proprietary formulation that contained marine protein.

Finished products presented to the consumer generally consist of a marine collagen protein complex, zinc, an enzyme cofactor involved in collagen synthesis, vitamin C, also known to be involved in the synthesis of collagen and an array of various antioxidants such as Vitamin E and plant extracts.
