Natural, bovine derived chondroitin products, soluble and insoluble, manufactured by Waitaki Biosciences provide pure cartilage extract powders with high levels of naturally occurring chondroitin sulphate whilst maintaining the other natural components, particularly the type II collagen component, the major structural component of mammalian cartilage.
Chondroitin is an integral ingredient in any joint health package. Other applications include cosmetics and as a functional food health ingredient. Ingredients that compliment bovine chondroitin include glucosamine and green lipped mussel powder in either tablet or capsule form. Joint Health
The benefits of chondroitin sulphate have been well researched and documented over time. Cartilage contains glycosaminoglycans, a complex carbohydrate polysaccharide contained within connective and joint capsule tissues, the most notable of which is chondroitin sulphate in addition to type II collagen in their natural, unaltered forms.
Both of these components have been shown in trials to provide relief for sufferers of degenerative joint conditions.

Type II Collagen
Type II collagen is an insoluble protein that forms the structural matrix of cartilage and constitutes 80-95% of the total collagen found in articular cartilage in mammals. Collagens contain unusual amino acid sequences of which approximately 21% is proline (as 3 & 4 hydroxyproline). Proline is not synthesized in the human body it must be obtained from the diet. Bovine cartilage provides the body with the essential amino acid building blocks and chondroitin sulphate for cartilage regeneration. There has been extensive use of intact and hydrolysed collagen in joint mobility remedies with claims of first use by St Hildegard of Bingen in the 12th century.
Skin care
Cosmetic applications with the soluble bovine cartilage have also been successful. The soluble nature allows for incorporation into creams and lotions. Chondroitin sulphate has an affinity for water molecules which can assist in the skins retention of moisture. Natural bovine chondroitin, in its natural form, is one of the best sources of type II collagen.
