Quality

Waitaki is a leading supplier of premium natural biological ingredients. Our commitment to quality and our experience processing of biological substances for supplements, pharmaceuticals and functional foods has established our position as a market leader.

Multiple factors contribute to Waitaki's reputation for excellence. Natural ingredients require meticulous management, from controlling the selection of raw material through to the final details of export shipment. Customer service begins before the first purchase with high levels of information exchange in establishing the customers needs both for their product and market access. Waitaki oversees each step of delivering a high quality ingredient to the customer with the integrity of the product intact.

Waitaki Biosciences is a registered meat and seafood processor. Our registered risk management programme is an endorsed and documented programme designed to identify and control hazards and other risk factors in relation to the production and processing of our products with the intention to ensure they are fit for their intended purpose. Risk management programmes include internationally recognised HACCP plans.

We also have ISO 9001 accreditation which means; through quality management we aim to fulfil: -

  • Our customer's quality requirements

  • All applicable regulatory requirements, while aiming to

  • Enhance our customer satisfaction, and

  • Achieve continual improvement of our performance in pursuit of these objectives.

We are currently building towards GMP accreditation.

    1. The manufacture of premium natural ingredients begins with using only the highest quality raw materials harvested from New Zealand's internationally renowned pollution free terrestrial and marine environments. All raw materials are harvested under New Zealand Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries and New Zealand regulations which ensure the raw materials are of a Government certified health standard and certified fit for human consumption.

    2. Traceability is a key factor driving global demand for New Zealand supplements. All ingredients follow a carefully documented chain from harvest of raw materials through to arrival at the port of offloading. Biosecurity is a vital part of the New Zealand economy and is why we lead the way in traceability of animal and marine derived ingredients.

    3. Export certification is a critical part of the traceability system. All exported ingredients are accompanied by a Government export health certificate: (a document agreed on between our Government authorities and the Governments of our customers' nations and issued by the New Zealand Food Safety Authority). These certificates certify the ingredients contained are fit for human consumption in the country it is entering.

    4. Process controls are vital in the manufacture of natural biological ingredients. Waitaki is ISO 9001:2000 accredited and is currently developing our processes to meet GMP and cGMP requirements. Waitaki has Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) plans for each of its processes. The HACCP system is internationally recognised as the most effective method for ensuring food safety. As such HACCP is being mandated in the EU, USA, and Australia and voluntarily adopted by other countries such as Canada and New Zealand.
The system is a systematic process analysis conducted to identify and prevent all potential hazards relating to the product and process. The emphasis of developing a HACCP plan is focussed on prevention rather than addressing problems after they occur.

    5. The use of independent laboratories for all analysis ensures all testing is impartial.

    6. Through the use of bioassays, Waitaki has worked extensively to verify the quality and efficacy of all our ingredients.

    7. Market understanding. Close relationships and understanding of the regulatory environment of our international customers

    8. Environmental awareness. Waitaki uses only renewable resources to supply our processes. Part of the value of the Waitaki range or products is utilisation of products previously identified as waste streams and extracts the value form each resource for the benefit of consumers around the world.

Product quality is part of the Waitaki culture from the purchase of raw materials through to end user satisfaction. High quality products are achieved through attention to detail by all staff and regular auditing and verification by both dedicated in-house staff and external independent agencies such as the New Zealand Food Safety Authority.

Waitaki completes rigorous testing on all products and has a large database of technical information on product quality and consistency.

The Waitaki manufacturing facilities comply with EU, USA and other market regulations for the manufacture of natural biological materials into nutritional ingredients.
